Can You Use FL Studio on Multiple Computers?

FL Studio is a very common type of music production software, also called a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW). When people buy this product, one of the common questions they have is if they can install the software on multiple computers. The answer is yes, but there are some restrictions.

Can you use FL Studio on multiple computers? Using a single license across multiple computers and operating systems is perfectly okay, provided you are the only person using it. The best way to ensure this is only to install FL Studio for your account, and not “All Users.” So, multiple installations are okay, as long as you are the only user.

This option is not available for companies, organizations, or schools, as they inherently will have many users. Those entities will have to purchase a multiple license version of the software. Image-Line, the company which produces FL studio, is very clear that abuse of this privilege is not tolerated. If they suspect more than one person is using a license, they can revoke your license and deactivate your account, as per their End User License Agreement that you agree to upon installation.

Can You Use FL Studio on Multiple Computers?

You may be tempted to share your FL Studio account with others, but it’s just not worth the risk. As stated above, Image-Line does not tolerate this. Remember, you can use your FL Studio account on multiple computers and multiple operating systems so long as you are the only one using it. The best way to ensure this is as follows:

  • Only install FL studio for your account, not “all users”
  • Do not share your password with anyone
  • Do not use your account on a public computer
  • Use FL studio only on devices you own

Sharing your FL Studio activation with anyone, even friends, is a terrible idea, considering you also then lose control over your account. Meaning, the people you have shared your account with can then share it with others without your knowledge. Image-Line states that they have seen cases where account activations have ended up online, and tens of thousands of activations were attempted for a single account.

Your best friends have other best friends, and those best friends have still other best friends and on and on. Once your license is “out there,” there is no telling who may be using your account without your knowledge. It can spread around the internet community, and once it happens, there is no going back

For the different versions of FL Studio, this is what applies:

FL Studio in 32bit and 64bit – For these versions, you can install them both using the same registration on all of your devices, under the conditions outlined above.

FL Studio for Native OS X – This program can be installed on all of your Mac computers and Apple devices, under the same conditions that were listed above.

FL Studio Software Overview

In this section we will go over each edition or version of FL studio, what they offer and their compatibility, from the lighter and mobile versions of the software, which start at a retail price of $99, to the robust Signature “All Bundles” version which retails at $899. There is also a free demo version available.

FL Studio Express – This version of FL Studio is for step-sequencing only editing and is best suited for a 64-step loop. There is an unlimited number of instruments that can be used. These include native, samples, or instruments created by the use of Virtual Studio Technology (VSTs). Instruments in your pattern can be routed to the mixer tool for processing. As of version 10.0, these include Delay, Delay Bank, EQUOo, Flangus, Love Philter, Vocoder, Parametric EQ & EQ2, Multiband Compressor, Spectroman, Stereo Enhancer, Wave Candy, Wave Shaper, and Soundgoodizer. However, there is no piano roll, playlist ability, automation, audio recording, or VST/ReWire client.

Fruity Edition – Along with the features outlined above, this version allows access to the playlist, piano roll, and event automation features. These features allow for the production of more complicated and complex sequences and arrangements. This version also supports VST/ReWire so that your FL Studio can be an instrument in other types of hosts such as Cubase, Sonic Solutions, and Logic. As of version 10.0, this edition comes with the Drumsynth live percussion synthesizer, the “Simsythn Live” synthesizer, the Wasp/Wasp XT synthesizers, and the DX10FM synthesizer. There is no audio recording feature included in this version, however.

Producer Edition – This robust edition includes all of the features of the Fruity Edition, along with audio recording and post-production. Hand-drawing point and curve-based splines, or “Automation Clips,” are some important methods this allows for. Plugins compatible with this version include Edison, Sytrus, Maximus, Slicex loop slicer and re-arranger, Synthmaker, and Vocodex. This version also allows for waveform viewing of audio clips and the ability to add cue points.

Signature Bundle – This edition includes the Producer Edition along with another series of plugins, including Fruity Video Player, Pitcher, NewTone, DirectWave Sampler, Harmless, Gross Beat, and the Hardcore Guitar Effects Suite.

All Plugins Bundle – This bundle includes the Signature Bundle along with a few extra plugins, particularly synthesizer plugins such as Drumaxx and Harmor.

Free Demo Version – The free demo version includes all of the features from the Fruity Edition, all plugins. It allows users to render audio to multiple formats, including WAV, MP3, OGG, and MIDI. However, it is severely limited as projects saved in free demo mode will only open fully once your FL Studio and plugins have been registered. Additionally, instrument presets cannot be saved, and the output from some instruments will cut out momentarily every few minutes until the program is registered.

Mobile – FL Studio Mobile is available for both iOS and Android. Both can create multi-track projects on mobile devices.

Fl Studio System Requirements

The newest version of FL Studio, FL Studio 20, works on Windows 8 and 10 and macOS 10.13 for the mac version. It requires a 2GHz AMD or Intel Pentium 3 CPU with full SSE1 support. It requires 2 GB of free disk space, and 4 GB of RAM is recommended, though it may run on lower amounts with some hiccups. As stated on the FL studio website, the more powerful your CPU is, the smoother the app will run, and the more instruments and FX you can use simultaneously.
